They are Special Immigrant Visa holders, meaning Amir is being offered safety and a new life in the U.S. for his services and dedication to the U.S. and our allies in Afghanistan. When U.S. troops left, those Afghan citizens who provided interpretation, security, and other services to the U.S. were targeted by the Taliban. Like all refugees, Amir and his family have an immense number of appointments upon arrival. They cannot travel to these appointments until they have a safety car seat for their toddler.
