Help with Groceries. Tashanda is a single mom of one, but she also cares for her two small grandchildren. She lost her job as a production assembler when COVID-19 emerged last March. Tashanda began taking cosmetology classes at the Richmond Technical Center to start a new career, but classes have been canceled because of the social distancing requirement. Now Tashanda needs support with groceries as her three children will be home all day attending school virtually.

Help with College School Supplies . Mateo has been enrolled in the Office of Community Wealth Building Mayor’s Youth Academy for the last two years. He will be starting as a college freshman this fall, with plans to major in neuroscience. Mateo is requesting help with school supplies for his first semester in college.

Help with Utility Bills. Destiny is a single mother doing her best to raise five children while in and out of the hospital for mental health. Hospitalizations and trouble finding a reliable babysitter to care for her children have made it difficult for her to maintain a steady income. Her youngest is about a year old. Destiny urgently needs help with her utility bills as she receives in-home counseling and stabilization services from St. Joseph’s Villa.

Help with Utilities. Shamari is enrolled in the Workforce Program at the Office of Community Wealth Building. She also has been taking classes at the Richmond Technical School. As a result of mandatory social distancing, her classes were canceled for the spring semester. A single mother, Shamari is having difficulty managing her household bills since she has to stay home with her children. She is requesting assistance with her gas bill until she can secure employment.

Help with Laptop. Montaziya is a participant in the Training and Workforce Program at the Office of Community Wealth Building. She was employed as a Medical Technician at the City Jail, but lost her job when a new provider opted to replace her with a Licensed Practical Nurse. But Montaziya bounced back with a plan. She's enrolled in a Certified Medical Assistant Program, excited about the opportunity to work toward a certification and employment. Due to COVID-19, her classes will be held partly online, and Montaziya has an urgent need for a laptop so she can navigate the virtual portion of the program.

Help with Groceries. Keith is a talented sous chef who lost his job due to COVID-19. His last paycheck was at the beginning of July, and Keith stretched to make ends meet, expecting to return to work in August. Recently, he was notified he would not be returning until the beginning of October. He has applied for benefits and is waiting for a decision, while looking for other employment opportunities. But in the meantime, Keith has an urgent need to pay for food until he can receive help from other sources or return to work in a few weeks.

Help with Rent. Samantha is a single mom of two who is not working. She had to resign from her last position because she had no one to care for her two children while they stayed at home from school during this most recent time of social distancing. Samantha has a court date on Monday, August 31st and must work towards having her past due balance reconciled to prevent eviction.

Help with Groceries. Imani was enrolled in a summer youth employment program and will be starting high school classes this fall. Her mom is currently unemployed, and has a heart condition that prevents her from going back to work. Although Imani's family is receiving some outside assistance, it is not enough to meet the food needs of her family of 3 over the next month.

Kyrah is a grad student who came to Virginia to pursue her education. She is young and independent and receives little to no assistance from her parents who reside in a different state. She has been out of work for a while but just recently secured a job and just needs some assistance this month to cover her car insurance so that she can continue to keep her car on the road.

Help with Electricity Bill. Lorena is a retired senior citizen on a fixed income who has a significant balance for her electricity bill. She has not been able to pay down her balance because she used her money to pay for two very important eye surgeries over the past few months. Lorena has spoken with customer service and has been assured that her lights will remain on as long as she can pay something towards her electricity bill. She also will be getting help from friends, family and her local church body. Lorena is looking forward to this bill being reconciled.

Help with Eyeglasses. Clarence has an urgent need for eyeglasses, he is enrolled in a CDL program and almost finished. But, before he takes his cdl exam his eyes need to be evaluated per the instructor. Clarence is depending on his new occupation to assist with sustaining a suitable wage to care for his family. At this time he is asking for support to help to purchase his glasses so h.e can pass his exam and secure employment

Maria is a mom and had been unemployed for a few months in Pennsylvania. She moved to Virginia at the promise of a job opportunity but the offer fell through when she arrived because of Covid. She is currently training for another opportunity and just needs some assistance to help her pay for some household essentials while she navigates through this would be setback.

Help with a Laptop. Frank is excited about attending CDL school at the Community College; however, he did not realize the first session is online due to social distancing. He does not have a computer and plans to attend school during the day. Public libraries are open with restrictions, but by the time Frank finishes school, they are closed. He needs a computer to complete his training at home and assignments.

Help with Groceries. Marie needs help with food for her family. She lost her job as a result of COVID-19. Marie has five children who have been home since the beginning of quarantine and things have been really tough. Although she goes back to work next month she has not been able to work temp jobs because of a health condition. This type of assistance would mean a lot to the family.

Angie is the Founder and Creator of Moving Arth, a day care program that helps prevent youth from becoming dependent or co-dependent on government funds by giving them the knowledge and skills to obtain a sustainable future starting at ages 2yrs.- 11yrs. She has developed a curriculum based on what she has heard from families in the community and knowledge gained from the Pre Teaching Program T J. Sargeant Reynolds. In order to prepare and perform these curriculums successfully she will need particular materials for in home learning such as: a desk or a long table, pencils, a black board, chalk, sanitizing wipes, play dough, books, paint, box tissue computers .

Help with a Laptop. Phyllis is enrolled in OCWB’s Workforce Program. She is a direct care worker but trying to enhance her skill set to transition into more of a clerical role in the Healthcare Administration field. At this time Phyllis is enrolled in an online class, but she is having challenges with her computer. She is asking for support to purchase a new laptop. Phyllis has some health challenges that has caused an increased cost in copays and medication. This type of assistance will be a great help to Phyllis.

Helen is a single mother who is caring for her children and her elderly mother. The entire family is staying in a motel currently and are saving for their own place. Helen works as a CNA and personal care assistant for the elderly but her work has been significantly impacted due to Covid19 Pandemic. She is need of assistance paying for her room while she awaits unemployment benefits.

Shanice experienced homelessness for four years when she aged out of foster care. After living through an abusive situation in a rooming house and moving to a women’s shelter, she found stable housing in her own name through Flagler Housing & Homeless Services at St. Joseph’s Villa. While Shanice and her baby boy now have a safe place to call home, she is facing financial challenges after being laid off from her job. Shanice needs assistance with clothing, baby supplies, cleaning supplies, and other household essentials as she seeks employment.

Aisha became homeless at 18 years old when she aged out of foster care. After two years of staying in shelters and stabilization programs, Aisha recently found an affordable apartment and support services through Flagler Housing & Homeless Services at St. Joseph’s Villa. She is planning to maintain her housing independently in less than a year, and is working toward obtaining a new job with a higher income. In the meantime, Aisha needs help with start-up essentials for her new home, including bedding, rugs, shower curtains, towels, cleaning supplies and kitchenware.
