Emergency Shelter Participant received ear plugs

Participants in our shelter program consistently request ear plugs for sleeping in a congregate setting. The shelter can only provide these when they are donated. Your support would allow staff to purchase a supply of ear plugs to distribute as needed and would allow folks in shelter to get a better nights sleep.

Harry received rental assistance for his new home!

Harry has had multiple stays in Emergency Shelter since May of 2022 following a crisis in which he lost employment, housing, & began to experience homelessness. While in shelter, he has been working diligently to re-obtain employment. Since becoming employed he has diligently worked towards saving a majority of the funding towards his new home. The one thing Harry is in need of is additional financial assistance towards his deposit in the amount of $250 as he is covering over half of the move in fees. The covering of these fees will allow him to fully move into his new home on 2/1/23!

Emergency Shelter Participant received hygiene supplies

Participants in CARITAS' Emergency Shelter programs often need to access donations for their day-to-day hygiene needs. Recently, both the Men's and Women's shelters have run out of razors to provide to participants. This donation will allow CARITAS to restock both shelters with around 600 razors that will allow participants to meet their hygiene and self-care needs for months to come.

Yolanda received assistance getting a TV for her new home!

Yolanda has been living in an Emergency Shelter since December following a crisis that caused her to lose her housing. While in shelter, she's been working diligently on saving and working towards housing. Yolanda is preparing to move into a room for rent and is looking for assistance furnishing her new room. One thing she's in need of that hasn't been able to obtain is a 32" TV for her new space. This TV will allow her a sense of normalcy and will help make her new space feel like home!

Amber is single mother and domestic violence survivor. She has been struggling to provide stable housing for her family since her divorce. Her car is crucial to her survival because she and her children is often staying from house to house and need transportation to maintain school attendance. She currently needs to correct a few things to pass inspection and needs help covering the costs.

Justice is a young adult and single mother of three young boys. She was recently hospitalized after a car crash that occurred while driving not too long after dropping her children to childcare. She is recovering well but has missed several days of work. This has drastically affected her budget and made it difficult to pay all of her utility bills. Help with this will lessen the blow of this unfortunate event.

This support will go a long in helping him to stay on track and reach his goals.

Alexus received help paying the deposit for her new apartment.

Alexus and her husband and 6 children have been living in a hotel for the past 3 months. They lost their home because they were not able to afford the rent increase. Alexus has just returned to work after maternity leave and is trying to get back on track. Before this they were all making it just on her husbands income. She has recently been approved for a new apartment but needs to raise $1000 to pay the deposit and first months rent so that she can save money on hotel fees and get back on track.

Chimere is a wife and mom of two boys. She works at a non-profit in the East End serving her own neighborhood and is always ensuring others needs are met. Chimere has had an unexpected financial need to support meeting her household utility need. With this support, Chimere will be relieve a tremendous amount a stress as she remains in service to her neighbors every day.

Faith is 18-years-old and pregnant. She cannot stay with her family so CCC's Housing Resource Center is assisting her with temporary housing. She is also working with CCC's employment services to find a suitable job. Faith is excited to have just been accepted into a GED program. To keep up with her studies, Faith needs a laptop. She hopes to eventually move into an apartment of her own and support her baby and her younger siblings.

Melissa received support to cover hotel expenses.

Melissa has a student who attends Wilder. They are homeless and stay in hotels. They have to leave their hotel room today due to insufficient funds. Melissa is trying to keep her son at a stable location. When they are relocated it takes a while for transportation for school to be set up and she does not want him to miss out on school.

Francisco, who is a senior citizen, is a refugee who is experiencing homelessness. Because of age-related health complications he is unable to work. Francisco is eligible to apply for citizenship which would give him access to supportive benefits and enable him to pay for rent and food on his own. Francisco needs assistance paying for the immigration processing fees.

Skylair is the parent of 3 girls that are five years old and under; two of them are in school (PK & K) and one is still at home. The two school-age girls have been missing a tremendous amount of time from school because they have lice and cannot seem to get rid of it. Mom has treated it multiple times and the treatment is very costly. The students are in need of being in school. In order to get the girls back in school, they need to have a professional come in to help get rid of the lice and teach the family tips on how to prevent it in the future. Assistance with this expense will get the girls back in school where they need to be in order to learn.

Tameka is a very active Peter Paul participant and single mother of four. She is community mentor and loves to help other single moms navigate the very tough circumstances they commonly face. Though she has yet to reach all of her goals she uses the story of her progress over the past few years to inspire others each and every day and works very hard to be a good example to her children despite her own struggles. She is currently in need of assistance to pay her utilities while she tries to maintain all her other household responsibilities and get all her children prepared for the start of school.
