Sean was unable to pay his DMV fees due to losing his employment, and has recently come to the CARITAS men's shelter seeking support. Sean is fully able and willing to work and save income, but is in need of transportation to support him in finding and maintaining employment. Chelsea received support getting her children's documents

Single mother and survivor, Chelsea is living in a shelter with her kids after leaving an abusive situation. Unfortunately, in fleeing, she was unable to find and bring her children's documents (birth certificates). She needs support securing these important documents so her children can register for school.

Cora received Assistance for a medical coding certificate

Cora is a survivor of domestic violence and a mother to four beautiful children. Cora is working towards receiving a medical coding certificate but, due to financial barriers, cannot pay for the fees. Cora is the sole provider for her children; this assistance would help Cora overcome this barrier and obtain her certificate and continue to take steps forward.

Patty received Assistance with Light Bill

Patty is a survivor of domestic violence whose home caught on fire. Patty and her family were left with nothing due to the fire. Fortunately, Patty was able to secure a voucher and a new home for herself and her family. While setting up services for their new home, Patty discovered that an unpaid electric bill needed to be paid before setting up services. This assistance would help Patty and her family overcome this barrier and move into their safe new home.

Liam is currently receiving Mental Health Skill-Building services with St. Joseph’s Villa. He just obtained employment at a local restaurant, and while Villa staff are supporting him with budget planning, he will not have enough money to cover his rental expenses this month. Liam remains focused and committed to maintaining his independence and his self-sufficiency. He would be grateful for financial assistance with his rent to avoid eviction.

Kristen is a single mother of two teenagers. She has recently been under financial strain because her father has become very ill and is currently on hospice. It is has been difficult to manage all of her household responsibilities and provide for her children they way she normally would while working full time and juggling the emotions of slowly losing her father. With her kids being out of school for the summer and travelling back and forth to visit her father so often she has seen a huge increase in how much she is spending in both groceries and gas. Because of this she has come up short for her car insurance this month and could use assistance covering the cost of this so that she can continue to keep her car on the road.

He could use assistance covering the difference as he works to get caught up.

Robin has been staying at CARITAS Women's Emergency Shelter for the past two weeks. She had surgery about a week ago and is not currently working. Robin relies heavily on her cell phone for meetings with her psychiatrist, therapist, and doctor, as well as for communication with her family. Your assistance will allow her to keep her phone service turned on and assist her in communication with services that are essential to her.

Cardell received a bike and a bike lock.

Cardell has been experiencing homelessness for two years after the passing of his mother, as he had been living with her as her care giver. Cardell stated that the most difficult part of finding stability has been his inability to find reliable employment. Cardell is invested in attending a Works program in order to engage in career development and job readiness. In order to support him attending the program, as well as being able to have transportation to his future work, Cardell could significantly benefit from a bike and lock.

Shelly (2/2) received help with her storage unit

Shelly came to CARITAS Women's Emergency Shelter two weeks ago. Since arriving, she's been working trying to catch up on past due bills and begin saving for housing. Through all of this, she's been unable to pay her storage unit and is at risk for losing her furniture. She plans to use this furniture when she leaves CARITAS and moves back into housing. Your assistance will allow her to pay her past due and current month's rent on her storage unit and continue working on her housing goals. All that remains to get her balance paid through July is the late fee she accrued when trying to catch up on bills.

Serena received assistance with purchasing a television

Serena, a rapid rehousing participant with St. Joseph’s Villa, had some challenges maintaining her sobriety and stabilizing her mental health when she first entered the program. She was very forthcoming with her challenges and showed determination to address her addiction and mental illness. She got a part-time job and stayed committed to meeting with her Housing Case Manager to complete her search for housing. In June, for the first time in 14 years, she moved into her own apartment and was able to pay for most of her moving costs on her own. She has asked for assistance with purchasing a television to help make it a home and a therapeutic space, sharing that watching television is one of her coping skills to deter negative thoughts and activities.

Cecil is a survivor of domestic violence. Cecil is currently caring for ten kids on her own with no help. Cecil does what she can for work but often finds it difficult due to a lack of childcare and transportation. This month has been challenging for Cecil, as she has used the money she can make through work to pay for food and other necessities for her family. Due to the financial hardship, she is facing, Cecil has been unable to pay her water bill and has fallen behind. This assistance would help Cecil get back on track.

Nicole is a survivor of domestic violence and a mother to 4 kids. While working out her exit plan, finances, and safe housing, Nicole had to pay for a bill she was not anticipating unexpectedly. This left Nicole without the money she would have used to pay her car insurance, and she fell behind on her payment. Nicole and her children rely on her vehicle and will need it to exit their abusive situation safely. This assistance would help Nicole's family stay on track with their exit plan.

Roberto received help getting settled into his new home

Roberto and his teenage son experienced homelessness for one year, prior to being placed in their home during the month of June. The father and son are in need of household essentials and clothes. Household essentials include cookware, silverware, dish detergent, dish towels, and mattresses (2) for the two to sleep on. Roberto reported they do not currently have beds to sleep on. The family is JUST moving into stable housing, after experiencing homelessness for one year and could use support getting settled.
